A pizzeria owner and at least one member of his staff wrestled an attempted robber to the ground Tuesday night before the suspect wound up shooting himself in the foot, reports said.

On Tuesday just before 10 p.m., police responded to complaints of an armed robbery in progress at Takka A’s Grill and Pizza on the 2300 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philly, according to news reports.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found employees holding down the suspect, whom they said was a 47-year old man but did not identify. He was armed with a gun and had accidentally shot himself in the left foot during a brief struggle, according to NBC10 Philadelphia.

Police confirmed Thursday they arrested the man and took him to Hahnemann Hospital, where he was last listed in stable condition. Once released, he will be charged with aggravated assault, robbery, simple assault and related offenses.
