The Street Vendor Project announced the cancellation of the 2016 Vendy Awards in Philadelphia on Tuesday, which would have taken place on Oct. 2, 2016 at the Fillmore.

“We are sorry to announce that we are cancelling the 2016 Vendy Awards in Philadelphia which was scheduled for this coming Sunday, October 2, 2016. With the New York Vendys having just taken place, we were unable dedicate sufficient resources to properly execute this event. All purchased tickets will be refunded in the coming week. We appreciate your time, effort and enthusiasm and we sincerely apologize for our shortcomings.”

The Vendy Awards is all about street food and deciding who’s the best. This year the event was going to host vendors like Dos Hermanos Tacos, Grubaholics, The Chilly Banana, Sweet Lavender, and many other Philly favorites.

The Vendy Awards is a win-win for everyone due to the assortment of quality street food vendors competing. In the past the Vendy Awards has had an assortment of popular food trucks like Las Olas Food Truck, Cheese E. Wagon, Foolish Waffles, Seoulfull Philly, Undrgrnd Donuts, and many more.

The Vendy Awards in Philadelphia does not just serve as a place for vendors to battle it out and Philadelphians to gain 20 pounds, but also as a fundraiser to the Street Vendor Project, the Food Trust, and the Philly Mobile Food Association.

The cancellation of the 2016 Vendy Awards is disappointing, but hopefully the street food extravaganza will be back in full force next year.
