Feds charge Philly cop with stealing pills from alleged dealer

The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect involved in assaulting school police officers on Monday.

Edwin Burgos, 23, of the 600 block of West Huntingdon Street, is wanted for his alleged involvement in the assault on two school police officers on May 2 around 3:30 p.m. at Northeast High School, authorities said.

According to police, the school officers were escorting students away from the high school after dismissal on the 1900 block of Cottman Avenue when they saw two adult men attacking a student.

When the officers stepped in to stop the beating one of the men began pushing and shoving the cops. One officer was then reportedly thrown to the ground while the second officer was punched. A third, unknown male joined the other offenders and then all three reportedlybegan to pummel the officers with their fists.

By the time other police arrived, the offenders, including allegedly Burgos, fled and were last seen running east on Cottman Avenue. Police decline to say how they linked Burgos to the incident.
