A woman who allegedly rammed a police cruiser with a stolen car and tried to hit an escaping officer is now facing charges, authorities said.
Erica Avila, 33, of Harbison Avenue, was allegedly driving a stolen 2004 Jeep Laredo just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the wrong direction near the 600 block of East Clearfield Street, police said.
An officer who saw the incoming Jeep got out of his car and fled to the sidewalk, fearing the vehicle would be struck, authorities said. The Jeep then drove onto the sidewalk in the officer’s direction, police said, prompting him to fire his gun at Avila.

The bullet reportedly hit the woman in the left hand, prompting her to flee, driving the length of the block down the sidewalk away from police. She later flipped the stolen vehicle after hitting a concrete barrier, also crashing into another police cruiser.
She was taken to Temple Hospital for her injuries, police said.
Avila, who is also known as Erica Lopez, faces charges that include driving under the influence, aggravated assault, simple assault and receiving stolen property.
The officer who fired the shot was placed on administrative duty pending an investigation by Internal Affairs, according to Philly.com.
