More than 50 exotic cats were surrendered to the MSPCA in Boston from an apparent hoarder.

The cats came from a home in the Metro Boston area a week ago.

Many of them arrived covered in pounds of feces, matter fur and sores, the agency said.

Because of irreparable malnutrition, some of the cats had to be euthanized and others required extensive medical treatment. Caretakers are working with the surviving cats, which will be put up for adoption soon.

“This may be one of the worst instances of animal hoarding that I have seen recently,” said Amanda Kennedy, director of the MSPCA-Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Treating that many cats has put a strain on the agency and its resources. Anyone wishing to donate can visit www.mspca.org/exoticcats.
