Cat lovers, the time has finally arrived.
Over the weekend, the Brooklyn Cat Café, the borough’s first permanent one, opened its door at 149 Atlantic Ave. allowing visitors some fun time with groups of cats and kittens — many of which have since been adopted. The cafe is run by the nonprofit Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition Inc. (BBAWC) which aims to improve the welfare of abandoned animals looking for a helping hand. RELATED:City to provide $10M in funding to build new animal shelters in Queens and the Bronx Although BBAWC encourages people to come and enjoy some time with the kittens and cats, a big emphasis will be placed on education. The cafe will feature educational programs, classes and also plans to work with individual rescuers. All proceeds from the cafe will go towards the rescue community, including local animal rescue groups, to continue funding medical assistance for rescued animals.
The cafe will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. and on the weekends from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission — which will get you 30 minutes with the adorable felines — is $5 and children under 3 years old are free.
