Projected images of endangered species, including one of recently killed Cecil the lion, were featured on the Empire State Building Saturday night. Travis Threlkel, founder of Obscura Digital, collaborated with Louie Psihoyos, acclaimed filmmaker and director of the Oscar-winning documentary “The Cove,” to create this show and elicit concern for the animals.

The show used 20,000-lumen projectors to illuminate images of the animals from a rooftop on West 31st Street. The images were projected onto a 375-feet tall and 186-feet wide space on the southern side of the building, reported the New York TImes.

The show included two helicopters chasing an apeclimbing up the building “King Kong” style as well as some “psychedelic” moments, according toThrelkel.

All the production and planning didn’t come cheap. Its estimated cost is more than a million dollars, reported the Times.
