This make-up artist wants to paint a perfect picture… on your eyelid. Tal Peleg uses eyelids as her canvas for her designs that depict characters from fairytales, movies and classic novels. The Israeli make-up professional and blogger painstakingly crafts her masterpieces with tools such as liquid eyeliner, eyeshadow and appliqué particles to create her unique designs. The artist tells Metro about her work and why she’s turned her eye to an anti-bullying campaign.

An eyelid is a tiny canvas. Have you had to give yourself more dramatic eyebrows in order to maximize the space?

[Laughs] Yes. They used to be much thicker but I had to make them thinner so that I had more space to paint.

All that make-up must make you feel sleepy. Is it like having a weight pressing down on your eyelid?

Yes, it’s such a relief to take it off. I always remove the designs straight after I’ve taken a photo. But it’s not designed to be worn all day — it’s art.

It seems like a lot of work only to be removed moments later. How long do the designs take you?

They take between 1.5 to 4 hours.

Wow! And can you correct a mistake?

[Laughs] It does depend on the mistake. Some can be fixed but some I have to erase and start over.

That must be incredibly frustrating. You’ve also created some anti-bulling designs. Why did you target your art at social issues?

It started when I created a design that was dedicated to my grandmother who suffers from dementia. A lot of people reacted emotionally to it. That’s when I realized that make-up can be more than just something pretty and be something that has a positive influence on people.

Were you bullied at school?

I didn’t suffer from bullying but I can see that a lot of young people suffer at the hands of bullies. I have a lot of followers and some are trolls, so I wanted to make a statement in response to those people and make victims feel better with my work.
