A new exhibit is soaring into the American Museum of Natural History this weekend.

“Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs” showcases the prehistoric flying reptiles, which could be as large as a two-seater plane or as small as sparrows.

Relatives of dinosaurs, pterosaurs are the first back-boned animals to evolve powered flight, according to the Upper West Side museum.

The new exhibit includes a motion sensor-based interactive that allows visitors to steer two species of pterosaurs. Life-size models and videos are also incorporated.

Dozens of casts and replicas of fossils will be on display, including the remains of an unknown species of pterosaur discovered in Romania two years ago.

The exhibition will be the largest about pterosaurs ever displayed in the United States, according to the museum.

“Despite persistently captivating our popular imagination, pterosaurs are among the least well-understood large animals from the age of dinosaurs,” museum president Ellen Futter said in a statement.

“Pterosaurs ” will run April 5 to Jan. 4, 2015.
