It was a day that would live in infamy, President Franklin Roosevelt said in his address to the nation the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

On Dec. 7, 1941 Japanese kamikaze pilots carried out an assault on the Honolulu, Hawaii naval base, killing2,403 Americans, wounding 1,178,destroying 188 U.S. aircraft and sinking eight battleships.

On the 75th anniversary this year, memorials were held around the country, as they are every year. Flip through the photos for a look at the attacks and how Americans have honored the lives lost throughout the years.
