Pierre Hotel maid says she was groped

UPPER EAST SIDE – An Egyptian businessman was arrested Monday for allegedly trapping and assaulting a hotel maid at the ritzy Pierre Hotel on East 61st Street.

Mahmoud Abdel-Salam Omar’s arrest comes two weeks after ex-IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested for attempting to rape a hotel maid at the Sofitel.

Omar, 74, is accused of locking a 44-year-old maid inside Room 1027 Sunday night when she arrived to drop off tissues he had requested. Once the door was locked, Omar allegedly groped her, pawing at her breasts.

He then asked for her number and she gave him a fake one. The maid was able to escape and told her supervisor, who reportedly told her to wait a day before calling the police. The supervisor has since been suspended, according to the New York Daily News.

Omar is the former head of the Bank of Alexandria. He has been charged with sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching and harassment.
