Planned crackdown on rowdy campers met with approval

Hayley Bellingham, 22, is looking forward to a quiet, relaxing May long weekend out in the woods with her sister and their boyfriends.

After the announcement of the RCMP crackdown on rowdy campers for the long weekend, recreational activities can still be enjoyed, responsibly.

Bellingham believes people need to be more respectful of the environment. “If these new laws are what it takes to make people more aware of what they’re doing then I am OK with it.”

However, she said it might be excessive to check for alcohol in cars.

“I think you are allowed to drink at campsites as long as you are respectful and don’t leave litter, so I’m not sure why it would be appropriate to ask that of people over the legal age.”

More than 200 enforcement officers will be deployed and they will issue fines on the spot if necessary. Bellingham said she “totally agrees” with these measures.

“I go camping to get away from the sound of cars, away from pollution, away from life and having your weekend ruined by a bunch of disrespectful people completely goes against the whole point of camping.”
