Playing the Field: Al Alburquerque delivers the kiss off

What better way to piss off your opponent than give them the kiss off? Literally.

Detroit reliever and greatest name of all-time contender Al Alburquerque literally gave the A’s the kiss off when fielding a groundball back to the mound in yesterday’s Game 2 win. Before he tossed the ball to first for the out he kissed the ball, gave a look to the runner and then underhanded it to Prince Fielder.

Let’s just say the A’s, now in a 0-2 hole, weren’t exactly in love with the move.

“I didn’t appreciate it,” outfielder Josh Reddick told reporters. “I thought that was immature. It was not very professional. That’s all I got to say about it.”

“I don’t know, I just do it,” Alburquerque said. “It’s just emotions. What do you do? When you win, you feel happy.”

What do I do? Well I don’t kiss a dirty baseball. How about pumping your fist?

Of course, I can’t write an entire post about Alburquerque without mentioning the great Mike Francesa’s moment with the surely made-up name last year during the playoffs.

Please, Mike, leave. Just go. You’re awful.
