Playing the Field: Bruins fans getting a tad too cocky with pranks?

Are Bruins fans getting a little ahead of themselves in this seven-game set with the Penguins? Well, yeah.

Could the above video ignite some modern day curse? Will Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy profit off this curse? And what will it be called, the Jinx of Jarome (Iginla) or Sidney’s Spell?

The Boston sports fan is often irrationally confident and worried about non-existent hexes all at the same time, so the above prank call to a Pittsburgh bar is damn near perfect.

It comes one day after a JetBlue pilot on a flight from Pittsburgh to Boston, after the Bruins took a 2-0 series lead heading home, crapped on Sidney Crosby. The pilot heard a baby crying in the back of the plane, got on the intercom and quipped, “Is that Sidney Crosby on our plane?”

If the Penguins are somehow able to come back in this series, there will be a manhunt for the Kevin Smith lookalike above and that pilot.

On a side note, I miss Moe Szyslak.

Mustache rides to the Principal’s office

Not a good couple of weeks to be a mustached baseball legend. On Memorial Day, Mets announcer Keith Hernandez, called a broken bat a “dead soldier” on air during a game. Remember, this was MEMORIAL DAY.

Last night, Red Sox fill-in color analyst Dennis Eckersley said something much less egregious. Still, he should catch a tisk, tisk from NESN execs.

After the Red Sox wrapped up a blowout 17-5 win over the Rangers, play-by-play man Don Orsillo sent the broadcast back to the TV studio. NESN had been having trouble with its microphones all night (at one point early in the game Eckersley was cut off entirely). At the worst time, Eckersley’s mic was left on and he said what everyone thinks after ” target=”_blank”>a 17-5 game, “We gotta recap this sh**?”
