Playing the Field: Ohio University band goes Gangnam Style

Let the sequel to “Call Me Maybe” invading sports begin.

You probably remember earlier this summer when you couldn’t go five minutes without hearing “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. (Has that ended yet?) Well it didn’t take long for the sports world to catch the trend.

We here at “Playing the Field” wrote about the U.S. swimming team performing the song prior to the Olympics back in July. But of course the Harvard baseball team also got attention for their van performance, the Florida Gators baseball team did an elaborate version and the SMU rowing team did an upside-down dance version as well. You get the point.

Well, now we have our first installment of “Gangnam Style” invading the sports world courtesy of the Ohio University marching band.

It starts out pretty routine, but once they break it down at the 1:38 mark even I was impressed.

By the way, Ohio was up 34-0 over Norfolk State during halftime, so they had plenty of reason to be enjoying themselves. They won the game 44-10 and moved to 4-0 on the season, so their football team is just as good as their band.

And yes, here’s the ground-level version of the same performance if you so desire.
