Good news America, no need to travel to Spain if you want to have a bull drive its horn through your midsection!

The news came out this weekend that a group is organizing the Great Bull Run modeled on the infamous Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain during the week-long San Fermin festival to be held in the U.S.

The first one will be held in Virginia on Aug. 24.

According to reports, 5,000 people have already signed up for the first race and the event will go on a mini tour of the United States, visiting Texas, California, Florida, Minnesota, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

The events will be safer than the San Fermin festival, due to notched walls for easy escape and less aggressive bulls. But you have to sign a waiver to take part and, generally, if you have to sign a waiver to compete in something, you probably should be thinking twice about doing it.

One thing many people don’t realize about the San Fermin festival is that those are bullfighting bulls charging through the streets and they end in an arena where they are slowly killed for the amusement of thousands of spectators. Hooray!

The AP story linked above spoke with Rob Dickens, one of the organizers of the event, who unleashed this doozy.

“You can go running down the street anytime you want, but to run with bulls — that’s something that doesn’t come along very often,” Dickens said.

No, no it doesn’t Rob. There may be a reason for that.
