Two badminton players from Thailand got into a tiff Sunday during the 2013 Canada Open in British Columbia. Former doubles teammates Bodin Issara — he’d be the one performing the ground and pound — and Maneepong Jongjit launched their way into Internet glory with a beatdown for the ages.
Deadspin reports the two dissolved their partnership in January when Jongjit retired. The two were teammates in last year’s badminton doubles competition at the 2012 London Olympics, where they lost in the quarterfinals and finished fifth.
Funny story though, Jongjit entered the Canada Open with a new badminton partner — Nipitphon Puangpuapech. The two have been playing together the past few months and just happened to be the No. 2 seed in the tourney. Bodin is now teaming with Vilailak Pakkawat and were the No. 8 seed in the tourney.
Not sure if that information had anything to do with the brawl, but I’m guessing it didn’t help things out. There’s also a pretty good chance it was just about a girl.
It’s also possible they were just frustrated trying to remember how to spell each other’s absurdly confusing names.
By the way, my favorite parts of that video are the photographer leaping over the signage to get an up-close shot of the beatdown and the fact that once Issara is pulled away, everyone just leaves Jongjit in a heap on the court.
