Police arrested a suspect in connection with the burglary and shooting inside a two-family home in Queens on Monday afternoon.
Felix Perez, 37, of Brooklyn was charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, authorities said. Perezwas shot in the groin during a struggle for a police officer’s gun while inside the first-floor residence of55-38 66th St. in Maspeth. Initially, there were reports that a 36-year-old woman also had been shot in the head, but police said at a news conference that her injuries were unrelated. She was found lying in her driveway down the block where she had reportedly suffered a seizure and fallen on a cable wire, which got stuck in her scalp. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, according to police.
Perez was described by authorities as a “career criminal.” He was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital prior to his arrest.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said a woman reported seeing an intruder in her home on the nanny camera in her child’s bedroom while at work and called 911. When police arrived, they struggled with the suspect over a gun. The suspect was shot once in the struggle before fleeing down Hull Avenue. Officers caught up to the suspect about a block away and arrested him. Cellphone video was taken by a neighbor, Michael Johnston. The video shows a police officer coming out, then re-entering the building. The resident of the first floor apartment arrived home from work to retrieve her dog. She is seen approaching the door, entering and then running out holding her dog. “She was afraid for her dog the entire time,” Boyce said at the news conference.

In the video, an officer is seen at the side of the building with his weapon drawn. A shot is fired and a scream is heard. Police are seen running after the suspect.
“I saw a guy running out of the house and police running after him,” Kevin Faughey, a 35-year resident of the neighborhood, told the New York Daily News. The police confirmed that no officers were injured. The officers involved in the shooting are 11- and 12-year-veterans of the force, police said.
Perez was desceibed by police as having “an extensive record for burglaries” and said he is being looked at for other burglaries in Brooklyn and Queens.
