Police ID body found in Jock River

Ottawa police have released the name of a man who died after the boat he was in capsized on the Jock River on Thursday.

Search and rescue divers pulled the body of 25-year-old Richmond resident Chris Welch out of the river at around 12:50 p.m. on Friday.

Welch and a friend were in a small fishing boat when it hit some rapids near the area of Bren Maur Road in Barrhaven South and capsized.

The friend, also 25, managed to reach the shore on his own and was taken to the hospital and treated for severe hypothermia.

The boat and motor from the incident were recovered shortly after the body was found on the Jock River.

The funeral will be held at the Tubman Funeral Home in Kars.
