Police investigate death of 6-month-old baby girl in Staten Island

Police are investigating how a six-month-old infant ended up dead late last night in Staten Island.

Cops responded to a 911 call at about 10:20 Monday night, according to police, of an infant in distress in a home on Steuben Street in Staten Island.

When officers got there, they discovered the six-month old baby, Genesis Monge, unconscious inside the home. The infant wasn’t breathing and had a 105-degree fever, according to the New York Daily News. It was her foster mother who called 911.

EMS units responded and transported the child to Staten Island University North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Daily News also reported that doctors at the hospital told cops the baby had marks on her that may be evidence of past trauma.

The foster mother was interviewed and the city’s Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
