Police net two men, two guns in one hour

Boston Police recovered two guns and made two arrests in one hour on Sunday evening.

Officers in Dorchester responded to a report of gunfire at about 12:41 a.m. on Puritan Avenue. No one was injured.

Officers searched the area, and recovered the car from which witnesses said the shots rang down the block from the scene of the shooting. Officers searched the driver and found an Inerarms Helwan 9mm on the ground near the car, an empty gun holster and other ballistic evidence in the car.

Timothy Moreland, 29, of Chelsea, was charged with unlawful possession of a gun, unlawful possession of ammo, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

Not long after, officers made another gun-related arrest in an unrelated incident in Roxbury.

Officers patrolling the area of Savin Street were posted up in an area where recent shootings and gang activity were an issue. Officers recognized Jenry Gonzalez, 22, a man known to authorities, walking on Quincy Street and called him over to the cruiser.

Police say Gonzalez took off running, clutching the right side of his waistband. A lengthy chase ensued, running through several backyards and hopping over fences. Officers said that as they gained ground on Gonzalez, they saw him toss something, which was later determined to be a Walther .22 handgun that had been stolen in 2011 in Leominster.

Gonzalez was charged with unlawful possession of a gun, receiving stolen property and trespassing.
