Police officer killed Sunday morning Bronx crash, 8 other officers injured

One NYPD police officer was killed and eight other officers were injured early Sunday morning when the van they were traveling in crashed in the Bronx.

The marked NYPD van hit a barricade just past 5 a.m. on the Bruckner Expressway at Bryant Avenue, according to police. Michael Williams, 25, was thrown from the rear passenger seat and through the window. He was taken by ambulance to Lincoln Hospital, and pronounced dead.

Williams was an officer in the 47th precinct in the north Bronx.

The eight other officers were treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The single vehicle accident is being investigated by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad.
