Police on hunt after second murder in 24 hours

Edmonton police are investigating the city’s sixth homicide of the year and second in about 24 hours after a man died from his injuries suffered early yesterday morning in the north side of the city.

Police were called to the scene outside All Hours Pizza and Donair on 119 Street and 129 Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. yesterday where they found a man suffering from serious injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital, but doctors weren’t able to save his life.

EPS spokesperson Lisa Sobchyshyn said an autopsy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today and police are looking for the public’s help in solving the case.

This is Edmonton’s sixth homicide of the year. Last year, at this time, there were 11.

“We still have to keep in mind where our numbers are in comparison to last year,” Sobchyshyn said. “We’re not even close to last year’s numbers and let’s hope we don’t get close to last year’s numbers.”

Sobchyshyn said city police are always prepared to deal with any situation, even two homicides about 24 hours apart.

“There are always resources at hand to handle these different situations,” she said.

“Granted it can get hectic at times, they just know that’s the nature of the industry they’re in.”
