Police probe city’s 9th murder

An early morning altercation in a quiet southeast neighbourhood has police probing the city’s ninth homicide of the year.

Cops are releasing few details about a man, identified by neighbours and friends as Dave Dupuis, 22, found dead on the porch of a condo in the 4900 block of 130 Ave. SE at about 1 a.m. yesterday, but said a gathering at the McKenzie Towne house led to a confrontation.

“An altercation we believe occurred at that residence and right now those are the individuals we are speaking to,” said police spokesman Kevin Brookwell.

“Preliminary interviews indicate that this incident was not random and at this time the death is not considered to be gang- or organized crime-related.”

Brookwell said the victim, whom police have tentatively identified but are awaiting an autopsy and the notification of kin, was briefly living at the residence.

Investigators have not released the cause of death or whether a weapon was involved and have yet to determine if there is any motive. As of Thursday, police have no one in custody, but Brookwell said those at the gathering are being interviewed as persons of interest.
