Police probe gunshot fired through door of home

Halifax Regional Police are investigating more gunplay in the city after a single shot was fired through the front door of a home in Halifax on Tuesday night.

Police say they responded to a home in the 6,800 block of Vaughan Avenue near the Bayers Road Shopping Centre just before 10 p.m., after someone called 911 to report an attempted break-and-enter.

According to police spokesman Brian Palmeter, the homeowner went to check on noises coming from just outside the door and heard a loud pop.

“I don’t think he was aware right away that a shot had been fired,” Palmeter said.

Neither the man nor his family, who were also inside the home at the time, were injured in the incident.

Three men were seen running away from the area, Palmeter said, but police were unable to obtain a description of the suspects.

Police are unsure why the house was targeted.

“Often times in cases like this, the person who lives in the home is involved in some higher-risk lifestyle, but there’s no indication of that in this case,” Palmeter said. “There is always the possibility that whatever (the suspects) were planning, they just went to the wrong address.”
