Police probing possible NW murder

Shooting Investigators are looking for clues in a northwest neighbourhood after a man was reportedly shot and killed in the front entrance of his home, in what police believe is a targeted attack.

Police were called to an Edgeridge Green NW home after gunshots were reported around 1:30 a.m. yesterday. The body of the middle-aged man lay dead at the front entrance.

Police are saying it’s likely the victim gave the suspect access to the home.

Neighbour Hend Hammounda woke to the sound of a gunshot and immediately after, she heard a car screeching away.

“Someone wanted to get out of there fast,” she said.

Hammounda has lived in Edgemont for seven years, and says it’s not as peaceful as it used to be.

“But nothing to this extent has ever happened,” she said

A neighbour who asked not to be named says the street often has cars racing the streets.

Acting Insp. Darren Cave says that it is unsure at this time whether the crime is gang related, and cannot confirm the murder weapon.

“It is a quiet neighbourhood, but as we all know, there is no area in this city or any other that is immune to such activity,” said Cave.

Family members, including children under 18, were home at the time say police. They are currently being cared for by their extended family and are co-operating with police.

There are no suspects at this time. This could be Calgary’s seventh murder this year.
