Police reveal poppies

The Edmonton Police Service seized over 160 pounds of dried opium poppies in an undercover bust last Thursday, and revealed the spoils of their sting to the media yesterday.

“We believe this is the largest opium poppy seizure in Alberta’s history,” said Greg Preston, acting inspector of the organized crime branch.

EPS received a tip last week that a package containing poppy heads was on its way.

The police have charged both Ravi Mohan Jolly, 52, and his business, Neelkamal Indian Grocery & Movies Ltd., for possession with the purpose of trafficking.

They confiscated over 160 pounds of dried poppy heads and 13 bags of powdered dried poppy heads.
