Police say student shot in drug robbery

A Pace University student was shot to death in a luxury Financial District high-rise in a drug robbery gone bad early yesterday morning, police said.

Max Moreno, 21, was shot in the head just after midnight yesterday in his apartment on the 37th floor of 2 Gold Street. Moreno used the cushy pad as his base to sell marijuana, police alleged, and had just finished a drug deal when two armed men burst into his apartment. The men demanded Moreno hand over his stash and shot him when he hesitated, police added.

Yesterday’s shooting comes as news that New York City’s murder rate is on the rise. There have been 387 murders in the first nine months of 2010, up 13 percent from 341 last year.
