Police search for suspect in theft of Torah scrolls worth $240,000

On the holiday that celebrates the end of the current cycle of public Torah readings, four sacred texts were stolen from a synagogue in Brooklyn, police said.

The theft occurred around 1 a.m.,Tuesday at the Avenue O Synagogue in Midwood. The suspect was seen in surveillance footage dressed in all black and wearing a yarmulke, according to Pix11. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

The Torah scrolls were reportedly worth more than $240,000.

Councilman David G. Greenfield is offering a $1,000 reward for any information.
