Police seek help in dog’s murder

Police hope three people who may have information about a dog apparently beaten and left for dead come forward with tips.

Const. Dallas Grimm said a passerby called police around 8:30 p.m. on the night the dog was found after they were alerted by a woman to the dying pit bull wrapped in a sleeping bag.

“The woman said she found the dog like that, however she left the scene prior to police arrival,” Grimm said.

Police also hope two men unloading construction material from a nearby white truck between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. come forward.

“We just want to know if they saw anything,” Grimm said.

Grimm said the dog died from blunt force trauma to its head. Investigators were led to its owners through a microchip in the animal’s ear.

The owners said the dog went missing last month during a walk near 17th Avenue and Deerfoot Trail.
