Police ticketing parents for improper child car seat use

How safe is your child? Well, for many Calgarians, they aren’t when ‘safely’ tucked away in a car child seat.

The problem is improper installation.

Calgary police handed out roughly 100 tickets for child seat violations during a check stop on Country Hills Boulevard Wednesday morning.

“Some people are a little surprised, we get some tears,” said Cst. Jim Lebedeff.

“[We] have a look at the actual child seat to make sure it is done up properly, make sure the straps and the harnesses are done up properly, basically make sure the child is safe.”

Those who got tickets do have a chance to skip out on payment. The Health Region offers a child seat safety course, and if attended, those tickets will then be torn up.
