Police to auction off goods

If you’ve been thinking of going out and buying a mountain bike, some gold Krugerrands, a kitchen sink or even a sailboat, then hold on. The 21st annual Vancouver Police Recovery Auction is being held this weekend.

The event will feature hundreds of thousands of dollars in confiscated goods being auctioned off Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. at 1500 Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam.

Items going under the hammer include more than 600 bikes, scooters, flat-panel TVs, laptop computers, tools, musical instruments, artwork and jewelry.

There is a public preview today and tomorrow starting at noon each day.

Rob Kavanagh, an auctioneer with Able Auctions, said strange lots come to tender with recovered goods.

“We had a prosthetic leg one year, but this year … we have a lot of high-end bikes.”

Kavanagh said anyone who comes to auction and discovers an item stolen from them should notify staff immediately.
