Police: Van driver high during crash

The driver of a special needs van that crashed in to a dump truck yesterday in Newton was charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Addis Woldeguiorguis, 51, of Dorchster, was allegedly high when the van crashed just after 9 a.m. on Highland Street, police said.

Woldeguiorguis was driving a van for AART Transportation when it hit a parked garbage truck.

The crash seriously injured three passengers in the van and sent a total of 12 people to local hospitals.

The passengers in the van ranged in age from their 20s to their 60s, according to the Globe. The force of the crash caused part of the van to crumple and one of the passengers was removed after the Jaws of Life were used.
