Police warn public to lock their doors after home invasion

Halifax Regional Police say a 19-year-old woman awoke early Monday morning to find an unknown man standing in her bedroom.

Police say the incident took place just before 4:30 a.m. inside an apartment on the 1500 block of Larch Street in Halifax. Police say when the woman awoke and saw the man, she screamed and chased him from the apartment.

“Not a clue (to who it was),” Staff Sgt. Joe Collins said of the woman. “You can just imagine how scary it was for her when you’re asleep and there’s somebody in your bedroom.”

The 19-year-old described the suspect as a white male in his early 20s. He is said to be about five-foot-eight with a medium build and was wearing a grey sweater — possibly a hoodie — with dark grey horizontal stripes across the front.

Police believe the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked door.

“Lock your doors,” Collins advised the public. “Lock your doors, lock your windows because there are some people out there who want in.”
