Massachusetts State Police said a trooper recently nabbed a woman who used a doll in an attempt to sneak through the HOV lane during the morning rush hour.

State police said that Trooper John Carnell stopped the 30-year-old Randolph woman as she was driving in the High Occupancy Vehicle lane, or carpool lane, on Interstate 93 in Quincy Tuesday morning at about 7:45 a.m.

Carnell found the doll secured in a car seat.

“The driver stated she was on her way to work,” state police said in a statement. “The female driver indictated to Trooper Carnell that she didn’t want to wait in traffic, and wanted to use the HOV lane.”

The woman was issued a $50 fine.

Police reminded drivers that cars must have two or more occupants in order to use the lane.
