Political instability could ‘screw up’ Canada’s economic recovery: Harper

CALGARY – Prime Minister Stephen Harper says the vast majority of Canadians don’t want an election.

Harper was responding to Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff’s announcement that his party will no longer support the federal Conservatives.

Speaking in Calgary, Harper said the country is on the right path when it comes to the economy and political instability could put an end to that.

He says it’s ridiculous to consider another election within a year of the last vote.

He says any good leader knows the focus of Canadians is the economy and now is not the time for “political games.”

Transport Minister John Baird has also said that an election would put stimulus spending on hold and added it would be irresponsible for the Liberals to topple the Tories.
