When it comes to pain relief during child birth, the first thing that comes to mind for most women is an epidural. But a new pain relief method is surging in popularity: laughing gas. The National Institutes of Health reported back in 2012 that using nitrous oxide and oxygen is totally safe; it’s just that epidurals treat pain better.

When compared to babies of mothers who used an epidural, the babies of mothers who used laughing gas had similar Apgar scores. Both groups even faired as well as babies of mothers who did not use any form of pain relief at all, according to The National Institutes of Health.

Given this information, how do you feel? If given the choice, would you choose laughing gas over an epidural? Take our poll and let us know.
