A Midtown crowd on Fifth Avenue waiting to see Pope Francis’ procession from JFK airport to St. Patrick’s Cathedral booed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who waved to the crowd from a Trump Tower balcony.

TheNew York Daily Newsreported thatTrump, who had previously disagreed with the pope’s stance on immigration, was also met with chants of “feo!” which is Spanish for “ugly.”

Trump continued waving, disregarding the jeers from the largely Hispanic crowd.

Earlier in the day, Trump had appeared on CNN to air his disagreements with Pope Francis’ opinions on the environment and immigration.

“I am not a believer in [man-made] climate change,” the Daily Mail quoted Trump. “You know – look, it’s weather, and we have bad floods … I do not believe that we should imperil the companies within our countries.”

Maybe more important to the crowd on Fifth Avenue was Trump’s earlier comment that America cannot afford to embrace immigrants as Francis suggests.

“We have a country that is going through tremendous problems. … Number one, we can’t afford this process,” he was quoted in the Daily Mail report, which added that such comments were in opposition to Francis’ earlier urging of Americans “to do unto others as you would have done unto you” in regards to immigration.

The majority of American Catholics are Hispanic, the Daily Mail claimed, and the pope has acknowledged that fact by delivering most of his stateside speeches in Spanish, his native language.
