PorchfestFEST is returning to the Lawn on D

The Lawn on D is hosting its second PorchfestFEST , bringing the sounds of neighborhoods like Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan and Jamaica Plains to Boston’s biggest backyard.

Before it was PorchfestFEST, Porchfest was the one time you couldn’t complain about loud neighbors. Through Porchfest, local musicians have taken to the front yards and porches of Somerville, Jamaica Plain, Arlington, Brookline and, this September , Roslindale. The event allows residents to venture into their neighbors yards, and, in the case of the JP Porchfest , showcase the diversity of the neighborhood through its music and culture. PorchfestFest’s goal is to encourage more neighborhoods to have Porchfests, one of last year’s organizers Mindy Fried told WBUR.

This year’s PorchfestFEST will feature Debo Band,a Boston-based Ethiopian pop band, as the headliner. Nine other musical groups will perform as well as several spoken word artists from the Boston area. Beyond the usual entertainment of the Lawn’s iconic swings and games, attendees can enjoy activities like “make-your-own tutus” and “ask a teenager” (I want to know: Team Taylor or Kim?) and watch performances from the Somerville Esh Circus Arts school. Food and beverages from Rebel Restaurants will be for sale.

If you haven’t talked to your neighbors since moving in, this may be the party to break the ice.

If you go:

Saturday, August 6 at 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
