Possible car arsonist sought

Police are seeking a male seen running from a vehicle fire on Tweedsmuir Avenue and Byron Street Tuesday morning.

Ottawa police and firefighters continue to investigate a series of vandalism fires after about 10 separate incidents were reported between 2:15 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. around Holland and Churchill streets.

Police said the majority of damage occurred to seven vehicles on the lot of a local car dealership located in the 400 block of Churchill Avenue. Four other vehicles including a backhoe were also fire-damaged in various locations in the area. Garbage cans and boxes were also set on fire, police said.

While the fire to the construction equipment caused about $80,000 in damage, the damage to cars is valued between $50,000 and $60,000, firefighters said.

Police are seeking a male of unknown skin colour. He is 6′ tall with a slender build wearing a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information should call the arson unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 2199 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
