Busy Bostonians rejoice, because in just a few short hours, ’round-the-clock booze, takeout, prescriptions, groceries, dry cleaning, and more will be just a download and a few clicks away.
Postmates, a courier service, is launching in Boston and Cambridge on Wednesday.
The San Francisco-based company describes itself as an “Uber for stuff” that will unlock the city’s inventory by connecting customers with a fleet of bike and car couriers to deliver anything in under an hour, 24 hours a day.
The app, available for iOS and Android, allows users to browse an inventory of thousands of restaurants and stores in their city, add items instantly, watch their rated “Postmate” [either a driver or bike messenger] moving on the map, and track their order status in real time. Deliveries start at $5 and users pay for everything within the app, eliminating the need for cash.
The initial delivery zone covers Downtown, Back Bay, North End, South End, South Boston and Cambridge. Postmates will begin expanding to other Boston areas shortly after the launch.
Postmates currently operates in Seattle, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and Austin; it is locallystationed out of Workbar Cambridge.
As part of its local launch, Postmates is offering promotions to entice new customers.
