Pot seized after car with 3 kids in back stopped by cops

An overwhelming smell of marijuana allegedly led RCMP to over $100,000 in drugs and the seizure of three children during a routine Check Stop.

RCMP Sgt. Dave Hardy said officers were conducting an Alberta Check Stop on Highway 1 near Lake Louise on Tuesday when officers noticed a “very strong” smell of marijuana coming out of the car.

“What’s unique is there were three children in the back seat,” Hardy said.

“Common sense says that isn’t very medically safe to expose children to in a confined area.”

The children, aged one, five and six, were taken into custody by Alberta Children Services where they remain.

In total, 15 pounds of marijuana was seized from the car.

A 31-year-old male and a 32-year-old-female, both from Calgary, will appear in Banff Provincial Court on Dec. 7 to face charges stemming from the incident.
