Predictalator says no playoffs, or soup, for Jets fans

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — This offseason, the New York Jets added All-Pro caliber players in Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Brandon Marshall as part of a massive rebuilding that also included a very solid NFL Draft haul. But watch out Jets, a computer-program is saying that you will disappoint this season and won’t make the playoffs.

The “Predictalator”is a computer program that has already played the NFL season – in its entirety – 50,000 times to determine the probability of certain outcomes. For instance, using a myriad of variables and rankings, the “Predictalator” has determined that the Green Bay Packers, to the tune of 17.1 percent of all simulations, is the most likely team to win the Super Bowl.

Their most likely opponent in the game is the Indianapolis Colts.

For the Jets, the “Predictalator”has simulated the season an aforementioned 50,000 times and has their win total at 6.6 wins, a number that whether rounded up or down would represent an improvement over last year’s 4-12 record. But it would be disappointing given the team’s lavish spending this offseason and would surely not satisfy a fanbase that hasn’t seen the playoffs in five years.

The prediction has the Jets winning the season opener at home over the Cleveland Browns and then losing their next three to go into the bye week at 1-3. The most likely wins remaining on their schedule includes the Washington Redskins (Week 6), Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 9) and then the Tennessee Titans (Week 14).

In Week 7 at the New England Patriots for example, the “Predictalator”gives the Jets a chance to win in just 23.1 percent of all simulations.
