Pregnant mother found slain on her wedding day

With a wedding and baby shower planned, it was supposed to be a joyous weekend for Vindalee Smith.

But the 38-year-old pregnant mother of four tragically was found stabbed to death Saturday morning at her home in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Police had not yet made any arrests as of Sunday evening. An investigation is ongoing.

Smith’s wedding would have taken place at the New Dimension Seventh-day Adventist Church, located just around the corner from her E. 94th Street home.

Fellow churchgoers told the Daily News that they became worried when she didn’t show up for early morning Saturday services.

Her landlord went to check in and reportedly discovered her lying on the ground with trauma to the body.

Emergency responders then officially pronounced her dead upon arriving at the scene around 9:20 a.m.

Smith’s due date was just a few weeks away.

“I can’t even begin to imagine who would want to do that,” Smith’s friend, Sybil Samuel, told the Daily News. “It would be the devil to kill a woman with a child in her stomach. They killed two people.”

Her four surviving children include two teenage boys, who were staying with family friends at the time of the murder, and two girls in their 20s, according to the New York Post.

Smith’s pastor told the Post that a former neighbor had previously threatened to kill her, and that she had received death threats as recently as two weeks ago.

There was no reportedly no sign of forced entry and no weapon discovered.
