They’re the standard capper to the prenatal classes for expectant parents, but the tours through the IWK Health Centre’s maternity wards are ending on Friday.
“In the interest of patient health and safety, we’re not going to be doing any more tours to the birth unit,” said Ann McCabe with the IWK. The tours were conducted about once a week, giving eight to 12 people a look around the ward where they will deliver their babies. “It’s a very busy acute care setting with lots of activity going on, and … we have emergencies at times and we have families that are in that area too,” McCabe said.
Video tour
Instead of walking tours, a video tour of the maternity wards is available on the hospital’s website.
