It appears the Trump border wall construction is underway and is moving onto the next phases of development, according to new images released by the Customs and Border Protection Department.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection department tweeted a few photographs of concrete wall prototypes for Donald Trump’s Mexico border wall that he has promised to build.
The CBP tweeted: “Progress check: construction of concrete wall prototypes is well underway in San Diego. #BorderSecurity”
NBC Bay Area reports law enforcement was present in the surrounding area as trucks moving supplies and equipment made its way to the border wall construction site.
The newly released photos show construction crews operating cranes and lifting the 30-foot-tall pieces of concrete slabs and setting them into place along the border that separates San Diego, California from Tijuana, Mexico on Tuesday.
According to the CBP, there will be a total of eight wall prototypes built. Four of them will be made with concrete and the other four will use alternate materials. The CBP said these walls will be use to “deter illegal crossings” in the area.
"We are committed to securing our borders, and that includes constructing border walls. Our multi-pronged strategy to ensure the safety and security of the American people includes barriers, infrastructure, technology and people," said Ronald Vitiello, acting deputy commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection in a press release sent out in September when the prototype construction was announced. “Moving forward with the prototypes enables us to continue to incorporate all the tools necessary to secure our border,” it explained.
The CBP said the prototypes will be used to “inform future design standards which will likely continue to evolve to meet the U.S. Border Patrol’s requirements.”
Despite how many people feel about Trump’s decision to build a wall on the Mexico border, there were no protests or demonstrations reported Tuesday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. However, there was a heavy presence of Federal Protection Service, California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in the area.
