HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark delivered 5,000 boxes of Legobricks to municipal schools in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday as part of a campaign to promote Danish culture, sports, entertainment and tourismagainst the backdrop of the multi-national Summer Olympics in Brazil. ”Legohas become one of the world’s strongest toy brands, because they know how to take children’s play seriously and they recognize its significance in child development and learning,” VisitDenmark CEO Jan Olsen said. “The same line of thought is reflected in other parts of Danish society, where play is used as a means to bring people together and to encourage innovation and creativity. TheInstitute of Child Education is part of “Schools of Tomorrow,” an educational program run by the Brazilian city. The institute serves areas where children might have a higher chance of growing up with little education, according to VisitDenmark. Children from 6 months to 6 years are given lessonsfrom 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and meals all day. The royal family celebrated the inauguration of “Heart of Denmark,” a 3,230-square-foothospitality pavilion on Ipanema Beach, on Tuesday. An 807-square-foot Legoplay area is nestled up to “Heart of Denmark.”
