Prisoner escapes from NYPD officer in East New York

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton called the police officers who allowed a prisoner to escape in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning an “embarrassment” to themselves and the NYPD.

Gerald Brooks, 39, managed to escape from police officers around 5:30 a.m. near 654 Sheffield Ave in East New York by “bumping” into the officer escorting him, police said.

He was being taken to the 73rd Precinct on warrants on charges of driving with a suspended license and domestic violence. Brooks fled fled north on Georgia Avenue toward New Lots Avenue.

Brooks is described as a black male with long black dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a hood, jeans and a red baseball hat.

There have been several high profile prisoner escape this year. Over the summer, attemptedmurder suspect TareekArnold, 23, fled from a police officer in Harlem. He was found in his neighborhood about a month later, re-arrested and held on no bail.
