A speeding minivan driver struck three people – leaving one woman seriously injured – and fled the scene Monday night in Kensington, authorities said.
The hit-and-run crash occurred at around 9:10 p.m. near B and Venango streets, when the driver attempted to go around a vehicle that was stopped on Venango, according to a preliminary police investigation.
Investigators said a 56-year-old woman remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday with head trauma and internal injuries. The other two pedestrians – men ages 59 and 32 – were both treated for more minor injuries to their wrists, according to the PPD.
City-owned cameras captured the crash, and authorities released images of the minivan Tuesday afternoon.
While the make and model were not immediately clear, police said the dark-colored van has a distinct red-and-white logo on both sliding doors. The vehicle was last spotted turning onto B Street and heading south.
“To strike one person in a hit-and-run, it’s unconscionable,” Captain Robert Heinzeroth, of PPD’s Crash Investigation Division, told reporters Tuesday. “But to strike three people and just keep going, it’s exceptionally callous.”
