A Manhattan man faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing a woman with whom he had a relationship, police announced Thursday.
Candido Rodriguez, 51, of West 22nd Street in Chelsea was booked on charges of first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the killing of 31-year-old Melanie Woods on the night of April 23.
Officers from the 25th Precinct responded to a 911 call for a wellness check at 2272 2nd Ave. in East Harlem at approximately 6:11 p.m. on April 23.
When they arrived, they discovered Woods covered in blood, unconscious and unresponsive in her bath tub, authorities said, with multiple stab wounds throughout her body and a laceration to her neck.
EMS were on site and pronounced Woods dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the killing a homicide.
Detectives closed in on their investigation and Rodriguez, taking him into custody on Thursday in Manhattan. Police did not provide a suspected motive for the killing.
